Martin Collier Phillips Corporation (MCPC) has been awarded a $920 million contract from the U.S. Missile Defense Agency to continue design, testing, and development of the Integrated Hypersonic Defense Propulsion System (IHDPS) – a critical component of the nation’s emerging hypersonic defense architecture. The U.S. Department of War announced the award in June.
The IHDPS strategic defense system represents a cornerstone of next-generation deterrence, recognized for its rapid response capability, propulsion efficiency, and operational adaptability across multiple domains. Originally conceived in the early 2000s and validated through extensive testing at the J. Martin Propulsion Systems Laboratory, the system is being advanced to ensure interceptor effectiveness against maneuvering hypersonic threats through the 2050s and beyond.
